Current 6 Fitness Essentials

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share all my fitness essentials as I start to gear up and get ready to get myself back to working out daily. While these are all pretty standard to a lot of people, I've listed my recommendations that I've been using for quite a while now!

1/ Fitbit
This is a new one for me, I've had it for about 6 months or so but I think it is amazing! I have the Fitbit Charge 2 HR in the size small. And yes, I got the regular Charge 2, I didn't get the Alta because while I do have really small wrists - I really wanted to have the sleep tracking feature. I find it really helps me remind myself that I should be going to bed at a certain time and in the morning I can look at how well I slept through the night!

2/ Headphones/Speaker
So I'm a little overboard in this department because I have 2 headphones and a speaker I use - depending on my mood and the situation or the environment that I'm in. The first one is the Bose Soundlink Around-Ear Headphones, I got these almost 2 years ago and I love using them. They are very flashy in color because I do own the mint ones so I don't really like to wear these outside the house. I like to wear them at night when I might fall asleep - they're really comfy! And I also take them on flights, just in case I decide to rest my head somewhere. I know these ones are discontinued now so I do apologize, but if you're going to buy any brand of nice headphones or any kind of audio - I highly recommend Bose. I have had multiple sound systems and they are amazing - worth every single penny. QVC by the way often has Bose on easy pay if that's something that'll help you out and perhaps make you more inclined to try them out!

The second pair, I recently got last November because I really wanted something that I could wear while I worked out - something that wasn't so flashy and that I knew weren't going to fall out of my ears. So I went with my second choice, a more affordable brand that I know and trust... Sony. I decided to with the Sony Extra Bass Earbud Headset in black. I did have to switch the earbuds out for a smaller size but they fit perfectly now and sound incredible for such a reasonable price point! I would say they are comparable to the Bose.

And finally, for the days that I just don't want to be tied up - I have my Bose Soundlink Color Bluetooth Speaker in mint! I bought 2 of these for Mark and I each about two Christmases ago. We still use it all the time... Cleaning the house, parties, watching movies or videos on my laptop to help enhance the sound... Everything! It's small enough to carry anywhere but the sound is strong, loud and clear. Unfortunately, this one is also discontinued... (I'm sorry!) However, because we are absolutely, positively a Bose family in my household - Mark recently got the Bose SoundTouch 10 Speaker and he loves it (he had his other one stolen out of his car last summer). It was quite a bit more than the Soundlink I had originally gotten him but it plays even louder while remaining crisp and clear, and it has some pretty cool additional features!

3/ Apps
I have two apps to share with you. And these are actually still pretty new to me so I will keep trying these out to see if they'll really work with my lifestyle...

Anyone who knows me knows that I do not run. If anything I can sprint for a few yards and that's about it. But I was mentioning this to a wonderful co-worker of mine and she suggested that I try an app called Zombies, Run!. And it's actually a little funny because I hate being chased. It's actually a pretty popular app but in case you haven't heard of it - it's basically an app that creates a storyline for you that you can listen to through a pair of headphones while you run. Throughout the storyline you're being chased by zombies, rescuing people and picking up supplies! It's such a great way to make your typical boring run into a really interactive game almost. And it's not a like a book where it's all you're listening to... You can still play your own music on it as well.

Now, the second app, my other co-worker suggested to me as something that'll help show results quickly. It is the Jillian Michael's App. And I can certainly say that even after working out for a week on my own to get back into the swing of things, I did one circuit with this app and it made me sore for days, it's definitely more of a strength training app for sure! I may be out of shape but this really actually kicks your butt. Don't worry though - it's completely customizable, you can choose the areas you'd like to work on, whether you'd like to use certain tools or not... And again, you can play your own music through the app. I really like this app in particular because she chooses the workouts for you. She chooses the schedule and when your rest days are... It completely takes the guesswork out of making up a schedule or routine to stick to.

4/ DVDs
So yes... I'm the kind of person that prefers to work out at home rather than at a gym. The only "gym" I ever joined was the YMCA because I was taking gymnastics classes and I would occasionally go to the Zumba classes and do an hour on the elliptical. But ever since the 8th grade, I've been using the same 2 or 3 work out DVDs. They are a little outdated but they've worked for me in the past and I still use these. They seem very simple and almost like they would never really do much but they are the best for cardio... These two are by SHAPE. My personal daily one is the 20 Minute Makeover, I do this as my starter work out and then pick and choose whatever else I feel like working on that day. The Ultimate Bikini Body Workout is my second favorite because the girl that walks you through the work out is a tough one! She kicks my butt. I try to do this after the 20 Minute Makeover but sometimes this can be a hard one - especially if you're sore!

5/ Swell
I've talked about this before in my Top 5 Summer Vacation Necessities blog post and here I am talking about it again. It keeps my water so cold, it's so refreshing after a long, hard workout! The only thing I think might be worth mentioning that might be a downfall for some people is that it can be hard to drink out of because it is just an open bottle, it doesn't actually have a straw or anything like that. If you're on a treadmill or any other kind of machine, it might be a little hard to drink out of without spilling everywhere.

6/ Scale
I debated even putting this one on here just because I don't feel like it's truly an "essential"... But I put it on here for motivational purposes because - for me - it is. And I don't mean this as something that you should be super focused on or super worried about because working out and staying in shape and being fit isn't solely about losing weight... It's about being healthy and feeling great too!

So, because it takes a couple of months before you really start seeing a difference in your body... I like to use this to help see the progress. The very first thing I notice is how I feel. I feel energized and good. Then, I really start to notice a difference in weight usually after about a month. And at times, it's been just a couple of pounds but at least I know that all the effort I'm putting in, is actually paying off. And that makes me want to continue to keep pushing harder and making sure I make time to work out every day.

Thanks so much for hanging out today, sorry for the late posting! I enjoyed sharing my fitness essentials.  Hopefully here shortly, I will start posting twice a week again - thanks to all of you being so patient with my move! I hope you all have a wonderful three day weekend and don't forget to leave a comment down below! - Kaylee 💋
